ROOTED IN TRADITION, FARMED WITH PURPOSE

OUR STORY & THE LAND

Lemah Park is located in a beautiful valley between the Macedon and Cobaw Ranges, approximately 60 km northeast of Melbourne.

Deep Creek winds through the property’s ancient woodland and fertile river flats, contrasting sharply with the basalt and clay slopes above.

The land is near Ngannelong (Hanging Rock) and sits on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Woi Wurrung, and Taungurung people. It was “settled” by the Peters family from Tasmania in 1842 as part of a 100,000-acre pastoral run used for wool production.

By the time of Victoria's gold rush, land reforms restricted ownership, leading William Peters to select this parcel, likely drawn by its reliable water source and natural beauty—something we feel deeply connected to today.

Over the years, the property has served many purposes, from sheep grazing and horse breeding to hosting a “school for young ladies,” the foundations of which can still be seen alongside the original cottage from 1856. The homestead, added in the 1870s, remains our family home today.

FARMING WITH REGENERATIVE PRACTICES

Our journey began in 2020, bringing with us a shared love of good food, nature, and agriculture. Coming from farming families in the UK, we’ve applied our food, agriculture, and horse racing backgrounds to nurture Lemah Park into a regenerative farm. Guided by agroecology, we raise Red Angus cattle and Ryeland sheep, breeds well-suited to our climate and forage.

We use adaptive grazing, rotating livestock up to three times daily to ensure paddocks have time to recover and build soil carbon. Sensitive areas are grazed only briefly, once a year, to protect the ecosystem. Our riparian zones (creeks and dams) are fenced off to preserve water quality and biodiversity.

Our commitment goes beyond our animals. We strive to foster an environment where birds, insects, and wildlife can thrive. Pesticides and artificial fertilisers are never used, and herbicides are avoided unless absolutely necessary. We find as much joy spotting a new species of dung beetle as we do watching barn owls hunt or wallabies graze on the property.

In the past few years, we’ve planted over 2,000 trees, with a goal of having 20% of the land under canopy. We are experimenting with compost extracts and no-till herbal leys—cover crops sown into existing pastures to boost soil biology and promote resilience.
